Woodworking and furniture industry

A rtisanal production of furniture in the Parma area flourished in the 1700s during the period in which the noble and ruling class in this small duchy took its place among European nations, absorbing their innovations, ideas, tastes and trends. The first survey carried out in the newly-united Italy (1861-1864) recorded 33 woodworking companies, whose furniture was “well sought-after because of its sturdiness and durability” Later, and especially following the Second World War, this long-standing, prestigious tradition was revived, u n t i l i t put the companies involved in the top ranks on a European level with quality production of cabinets and lacquered wardrobes, living room suites and other furnishings. Recent years have also seen the addition of modular kitchen units.

The companies in this sector produce high-quality lacquered wardrobes, living room suites and furnishings, door and window frames , as well as wooden packaging boxes. Our area hosts also companies processing cork oaks (producing corks, grains and insulating materials). Among the realities active in this sector there is also a company building and enhancing wooden panels for both facilities and vehicles.
